Load-on, Transport, and Float-off of Tidal Generator:
A Landmark Project by BOA

BOA was appointed as the main contractor for the load-on, transport, and float-off of the 680-ton Orbital O2 tidal turbine, the world’s most powerful tidal turbine. This project showcased BOA’s expertise in handling complex maritime operations and set a new benchmark in the renewable energy sector.

The Orbital O2 was loaded onboard BOABARGE 35 at the port of Dundee, Scotland. In a meticulously planned operation, the turbine was floated off on the River Tay. Following the successful float-off, the turbine was towed to Orkney, where it will be anchored and begin producing electricity to power 2,000 homes.

BOA was responsible for all operational management of the barge during the load-out, transport, and float-off, ensuring a seamless and efficient process. This project not only highlights BOA’s capability to manage large-scale maritime projects but also underscores their commitment to supporting renewable energy initiatives. The successful deployment of the Orbital O2 tidal turbine marks a significant step forward in harnessing tidal energy to provide sustainable power solutions.
